Graduation Requirements

*Only 6 credits of 496-499 count towards the psychology B.A. major. Up to 18 credits count towards the 180 credits required for graduation.

Other Requirements

1. Admission to the Department of Psychology
2. A minimum grade of 2.0 in each psychology and related fields course used to satisfy a requirement for the major.
3. A 2.5 GPA in all psychology courses taken (UW and transfer), excluding 496-499.
4. A 2.0 UW GPA is required for the Bachelor of Arts.
5. Transfer students must meet all of the above requirements including at least 15 graded credits at the 300 and 400 level in psychology at the University of Washington.
• Courses taken to satisfy requirements for the major (including related fields) may NOT be taken on a Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory basis.
• Students must also complete all degree requirements of the University and all general education requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.
• A student may earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in psychology, but not both.

Bachelor of Science

Psychology Courses

• Psych 101 (Introductory) - 5 credits
• Psych 202 (Biopsychology) - 5 credits
• Psych 209 (Fundamentals of Research) - 5 credits
• Psych 317(5) and 318(5) (statistics) - 10 credits
• One Psych Lab Course, from list below - 5 credits
  • Psych 330, 331, 332, 334, or 419
  • A. Psych 300 (Animal Behavior), 302 (Neuroscience of the Mind), 333 (Sensory/Percept.), or 355 (Cognitive)
  • B. Psych 303 (Personality), 305 (Abnormal), 306 (Developmental), 345 (Social), or 357 (Psychobiology of Women)
  • One additional core course from either of the above groups
  • One at a 300 or 400-level - 3-5 credits
  • Two at a 400-level - 3-5 credits

  Note: Students must earn a 2.0 or better in Psych 317 to proceed to Psych 318. Students can only take this class once.

  Total: 66 credits of Psychology

  • Math 124, minimum 2.0 grade - 5 credits
  • Biology 118, 180, 200, or 220, minimum 2.0 grade - 5 credits

  • Philosophy 120 or 160, minimum 2.0 grade - 5 credits
